Stampin Friends 2021 September Blog Hop--Say it With Sentiments

Welcome!

Where does the time go? September is flying by. We had frost on the ground this morning. Already it's time for my Stampin' Friends and I to share our latest cards and 3-D projects. Our theme this month is: Say it With Sentiments.

If you are hopping along with us, you may have come from Katja's blog. Please continue on with Teri's blog. You will find a list of bloggers at the bottom of my blog.

I especially like stamp sets that include inside messages. The Inspired Thoughts stamp set in Stampin' Up!'s 2021-2022 Annual Catalog has greetings and coordinating inside messages for several occasions. It can be purchased as a bundle with the Inspired Canopy die set at a 10% saving. I used the bundle for my projects.

The card
I needed a sympathy card recently, and these sentiments were exactly right.

The inside leaves were cut with the Seasonal Swirls die set. The label for the front greeting was cut from a die in the Tasteful Labels set.

The Inspired Canopy dies are so versatile--trees for
every season can be cut easily and quickly.

The tree die cuts FOUR trees, but in this picture I cut one off for a different project.
I love the fall colors, and I have cut leaves in a variety of colors and stored them in a clear envelope--ready for any season. There is also a die to cut the curvy ground piece for the backdrop of the trees.

There is no "right" way to place the leaves on the bare tree, but I found that I liked the look when I adhered the first layer at the bottom of the branches like so:

Then add more layers, overlapping a bit as you go up.

Don't forget to make piles of leaves on the ground!

The 3-D project

I am making items to sell at a craft sale in November.  One of my best selling items is a mini legal sized covered notepad.  I used the Inspired Canopy dies to create this one:

The message is from a retired stamp set. The birds and the mask I used for the clouds were in the March 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit.
Here is the inside:

Directions for making the cover for the note pad can be found in my November 2020 blog post. Click here to find it: Post: Edit (blogger.com)

Here are the links to my friends' blog posts. You will find lots of paper crafting inspiration in the these blog posts! At the bottom of each blog there is a place to leave a comment. We love to hear what you think of our creations.

Stampin Friends 2021 August Blog Hop--It's All About Paper

Welcome!

It's time for my Stampin' Friends and I to share our latest cards and 3-D projects. Our theme this month is: All About Paper. Who doesn't love to craft with pretty patterned paper? (I admit to being one of those paper hoarders who can't bear to cut up a pretty sheet of designer paper!)

If you are following the blog hop, you may have come from Katja's blog. Continue on to see Teri's wonderful projects. A list of bloggers is found at the bottom of my blog.

My card and project this month highlight some fun, bright paper from Stampin' Up! called Sweet Symmetry. I love the color combinations in this set of Designer Series Paper (DSP): Bumblebee, Calypso Coral, Flirty Flamingo, Night of Navy, and Just Jade.
Thank you to fellow demonstrator Chris Slogar (buckeyeinklings.com) for her inspiration for this sweet card. Complete directions for constructing the card are found further down in my blog.

Card base: Night of Navy card stock 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"
Swirly Wreath: Night of Navy card stock and Seasonal Swirls Die Set
Calypso Coral zig zag embellishment: Basic Borders die set
Greeting: Sweet Strawberry stamp set and Tasteful Labels die set
DSP for front and inside: Sweet Symmetry 12" x 5-1/4"

The inside pocket contains an insert for a message.
Mat: Night of Navy card stock 4-1/2" x 3-1/2"
Message Piece:White cardstock 4-3/8" x 3-3/8"

Here are the directions for the card. I have used different DSP for this "practice" card.
1. Cut a piece of pretty patterned paper 5-1/4" x 12". Score on the long side at 4" and 8". You will need to be careful when using directional patterned paper. (See below for an example of what not to do!)
2. Score on the diagonal from the bottom left corner to the 8" score line.
3. Cut off the bottom corner leaving a 1/2" flap. Set aside the triangle for later use. Trim a small triangle off the flap for ease in folding.
4. Fold over the flap and glue it down.
5. Adhere a piece of Tear and Tape along the left side of the triangle piece.

***
At this point with my "real" card, I decided to add a bit of border (in years past we called this "rick rack.")
I placed a die from the Basic Borders set down the middle of a 1" piece of cardstock and ran it through my die cut machine.
This is what it looked like:
I snipped each end of the card stock and got this:
Yay! Two pieces!
I glued them along the long side of the triangle pocket and the triangle piece for the front of the card.

***

6. Remove the top covering of the Tear and Tape and fold the triangle piece up to form the inside pocket.

7. Cut a piece of card stock 5-1/2" x 4-1/4".
8. Adhere the patterned paper pocket piece to the card stock.
9. Decorate as desired. I glued the triangle piece I had cut off to the bottom corner of the front.

***
(
Don't do what I did with my first attempt at this card!) This is what I mean about being careful with directional patterns:
This is a strip of another piece of the Sweet Symmetry patterned paper. Notice the directional pattern.
The back side also has a directional pattern.
Look how the inside turned out with my first attempt at making this card. The design on the pocket is correct, but the pattern in the coral piece is not! Oops, I had to start over using different paper!)

On to my 3-D project: A very special thanks to my fellow demos Heidi Gartzman, Lolo, MT in the US and Sam Hammond Donald (pootles.co.uk) in the UK whose projects were the inspiration for this little backpack to hold candy treats or other small items. Theirs were adorable, and I had to have a go at making one of my own! I think it turned out beautifully! Fun! Next up: make ones for my two teenage grandsons as a "good luck in the new school year" treat package.

Sam's video for making the backpack can be found here(15) How To Make a Cardstock BackPack - YouTube . She used magnets to close the top and pockets, but I used 1/2" Velcro circles.

Stampin Friends 2021--July Blog Hop--Just Rewind & Redo

Welcome, Crafting Friends!

It's time for my Stampin' Friends and I to share our latest cards and 3-D projects. Our theme this month is: Just Rewind & Redo. We are looking back to past projects and techniques, remaking those favorite projects, and giving them a fun update using new products. If you are following our blog hop, you may have come from Jo's blog. For more inspiration I hope you will continue on to Katja's blog. A list of bloggers and their links are found at the end of my blog. We appreciate comments posted at the end of each person's blog. Thanks!

Sometimes I have trouble with card design, so I often turn to Pinterest for Card Sketches. The sweet sketch below is one of the very first one I pinned. I used it for one of the first classes I held after becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator five years ago. It's still one I use often! The attendees at that class were beginners at stamping. They had such great success with this simple card, they were eager to come to another class. Some of them are still stamping with me!

This is the card I made for this month's blog:

I used Pansy Petals designer series paper for the background and used other In Colors for the banners and flower "button."  Each banner has two layers.  The underlayer is from the In Colors DSP set and the top layer is some some shimmery vellum.  I offset the layers to show a bit of the underlayer. The photo below gives an idea of its pretty shimmer.

Rather than use a button for the twine embellishment, I cut a flower using the Pierced Bloom Dies and punched two holes for the twine.  I love the look of the pierced flower!

My simple 3-D project is one I made after watching a YouTube video made by Caroline Helwigh Wright  a former demonstrator in the UK.  I usually give a little chocolate treat to my class attendees, and this is a quick and easy treat bag to make using a 6 x 6" piece of pretty paper. Here is the link to watch Caroline make the bag:   (532) Ombre Gift Pouches - Video Tutorial with Colourful Seasons DSP - Stampin' UP New Catalogue Week - YouTube

The doily and the stamp set I used for the greeting are no longer available from Stampin' Up,  but the rest of the products can be found in the list at the bottom of my blog.
Here is the template I used to make the bag. (I used some scratch paper, so it's a little messy, but you get the idea....)

1.  Score at 1 inch.  This is the bottom of the bag, so if you are using paper with a directional pattern, you will need to position it properly.
2.  Turn the paper and score at 1-3/4", 2-3/4 ", 4-1/2" stopping at the 1" score line.
 3. Score at 5-1/2" all the way down the side.
4.   Cut away the shade area.
5.  Keeping the paper slightly rolled, adhere the tab to the other side.
6.  To make the bottom of the bag, cut on the short score lines to the 1" score line.  Fold the side flaps in first. Fold the other flaps in, apply adhesive to the last flap.
7.  Decorate as you wish.

Below are the names of my stampin friends.  Click on each name to go to her blog.
